Meteorologist

Philatelist:
Damyan Barantiev
These stamps are bequest made in will to a mother and her two daughters from their husband and father. His name was Gancho Dimitrov Raichev and he was one of the respectable philatelists in Bulgaria. During the communist period he held intensive correspondence with other philatelists from all-over the world covering the whole area of philately. As a matter of fact he had a business spirit like every philatelist who believes in his own worth, dignity and look at stamp collecting like a professional hobby. By studying postage stamps and related items and by setting high standards that must be met, he succeeded in sustaining his family financially without any job. His enjoyable activity to collect stamps and make business with them was his primary job to the end of his life.

My name is Damyan Yanchev Barantiev and I am the only grandson of Gancho Dimitrov Raichev. As a boy I discovered the collection and became enthusiastic of my parent's father hobby, who I don't remember. For this reason I started with stamp collecting until someone of my friends stole my small collection. It was a big disappointment for me, because in this collection there was a set of stamps from my grandfather's collection which I had taken them without asking someone or permition from anyone. That's why I decided to stop changing and grow in with my newest hobby. I understood that I was not ready to take responsibility for my grandfather’s collection. Well, it was may be for good. After political reformation and with the end of communist government in Bulgaria at the first few years so many philatelists sold there stamps under pressure of penury and lay off.

Twenty five years these stamps was kept in boxes and albums. For this time there was nobody to take a look at them and make classification into groups, until I started to do this. I ascertain the fact that is not easy and it would take time because every stamp wants attention to be investigated.
